Fundamentals of Overhead Cranes – Dartmouth, NS

This 2-day program will provide participants with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills of safely lifting with the aide of overhead cranes during lifting operations. This program meets and exceeds the local training regulations and industry standards CSA B167 and ASME B30.2.

Course Content:

  • Regulations, standards, and codes of practice
  • Risk management
  • Basic lifting plan
  • Rigging fundamentals (calculating load weight and sling tension, slings, rigging hardware, etc)
  • Crane components (types, electrical, control types, etc)
  • Pre-use inspections (rigging equipment and overhead crane)
  • Safe operating principles (hoisting, traveling, load swing, etc)
  • Communication (radio, hand signals)
  • Practical application of the equipment and principles

This program is a combination of theory and practical training. Participants are evaluated by means of a written test and a practical evaluation. Upon successful completion of the program, a certificate will be issued that is valid for 3 years.

Required PPE: CSA safety footwear, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves
